As long as it is designed for aluminum engine, it is safe to use. The color is just a dye.

          Orange Dexcool stuff is shit.

Stick with the green or blue. I prefer the look of the BMW blue stuff.

Avoid anything with phosphates..and yes, get the blue from the dealer for $20-25. It's a 2 years maintenance item so not worth cutting corners on

Zerex G-05 is BMW equivalent for a little cheaper - find it at your local O'Reilly's. Phosphate free, low silicate, aluminum safe - high quality base stock. Best stuff you can find short of Pentosin/OEM.

EDIT: Did a little more research and if you want to get technical the actual BMW equivalent is the similar formulation G-48, not the G-05. G-48 is specifically recommended for BMWs and is the same formulation as what you buy at the dealership. The main difference between it and the G-05 is that the G-48 is nitrite free. Good luck finding it though.

It's more of a healthy golden color.

Dunno what the situation is like in the US of A, but in Australia the genuine blue coolant from BMW is cheaper than the aftermarket stuff from parts shops (green or orange etc).

I don't think it matters too much what you use, as long as its for aluminium engines and I think the general consensus is don't mix colors together.

I've been unning the Zerex G-05 for a few years now.

I think I bought a few bottles at one point, then every subsequent time I've needed coolant, I'd already have 1 or more bottles around so I never actually switched to BMW coolant.

Coolant. Like oil, not too important what kind you use, as long as you change it every couple
of years. And don't mix the wrong colors....
