    Calypso....again ***PHOTOS ADDED***

I found a completely stock 1990 325i coupe a couple hours from home this week. It happens to be calypsorot, the same color of a convertible that I owned previously. Owner didn't know what he had and was bombarded with interest from the local e30 community. For $1,800 I picked up my newest project today! It made the 2-hour drive without overheating or failing on I-5...that is success. It needs a deep cleaning now. Photos show the filth.

    Known issues:
    • Driver's seat is terrible
    • Small oil leak (will put on a lift in the coming weeks to diagnose)
    • Odometer quit working at 187k (owner claims ~200k). I have records up to 2012 and it showed 175k.
    • Sunroof works, but intermittent when closing.
    • Auto door locks don't work
    • Shift knob was homemade junk, so I threw it away today.
    • Fenders had some "trim" that was attached with adhesive that I also tore off and threw away. It was not the chrome stuff.
    • Clear coat is gone at the roof and trunk.

    My Plans:
    - Keep the car forever
    - Stromung catback exhaust
    - GC/koni coilover kit (maaaaaaybe springs like H&R Race)
    - Tan sport seats
    - 16" wheels - currently thinking Corsa GT steelies or Borbet Type T
    - Fix all of the odds and ends to clean it up a bit.
    - One day I will repaint it. Deciding between the stock Calypso...or going BRITISH RACING GREEN!

Waiting for my Stromung delivery so I put it on jacks and removed the old exhaust. I found a lot of corroded material in the muffler, as well as having the welds completely shot between the 2-in pipes and the muffler. You'll notice that I took a small diameter screwdriver and built my own tool to pull the donut hangers over their respective clamps. Worked great.

Great find! Lucky to be the guy that scored that deal!

Also FYI - On the Stromung exhaust you don't use the lower exhaust hangers, just the top ones.

With the oil leak 95% contained (still need to replace oil pressure sensor), my next upgrades are going to be suspension, followed by wheels/tires.

                            Thoughts:
                            - Koni SA shocks/struts
                            - IE3 race springs
                            - e90 drop hats
                            - ST 22/19 sway kit
                            - Garagistic strut bars front/rear
                            *Rear shock mounts (taking suggestions)
                            *Camber plates (taking suggestions)
                            **wheels tentatively TRM C1 15x8

                            I have (2) questions:

                            1) I'm leaning towards GC sport camber plates. It's a spirited DD car and I mostly just don't want to ruin tires super easily. I've also heard that that they are thinner than stock plates and I'm under the impression they will lower the front a bit more as well. I just don't love the $400 price tag. Are there other suggestions? I've seen vorshlag but those are even more expensive.

                            2) IE rear shock mounts at $80 seem the most logical. Does anyone have other suggestions at a similar/less price point?

I think I'd just pony up for the GC plates. You get what you pay for. As for the rear shock mounts, I believe E46 M3 mounts are an OE upgrade without spending too much.

Why did you decide on IE race springs instead of H&R? When I was shopping for springs, I got it down to those two, and although I don't remember exactly what it was, there was a reason I went with the H&Rs. Might want to look into that.

Regarding the rear strut bar, I seem to recall someone saying that the rear bar doesn't really do anything, unlike the front bar. Maybe do some research on that too, might be able to save some money.
