Front/Left CV Axle - CV Joint came apart from the Axle Shaft

I'm posting this with my tail between my legs. I've rebuilt axles many times before but apparently still have much to learn (we're never done learning, are we?).

I'll keep this simple. Yesterday I replaced both Front Wheel Bearings, and took my pile of spare front axles and chose the best two I had. I cleaned them up thoroughly, put new grease in them, Rebooted, and installed them.

Victory drive home from the shop showed the repairs were good. No more dishwasher type sound from the front right wheel bearing, and the axles did not click at all, I was happier with my iX than i'd been since I bought the car.

Driving home on the freeway and everything was great...I felt something come loose - which felt literally under me. I pulled over and verified the front/left CV Joint (which is still bolted to the wheel hub/bearing assembly), had come apart from the axle shaft, leaving the axle shaft (with fresh boot, and awesome fresh grease which is now all over my wheel) resting in the barrel of my wheel, still secured into the Front Diff.

My thought is that the CV Joint did not get "clicked/fully secured" on to the Axle Shaft after rebooting the axle. I swear I gave the end of the CV Joint a few solid hits with a Rubber Mallet like I always do, I'm not quite sure what happened. All I know is it needs to come back apart.

Cliffs Notes - What is the easiest/quickest way to pull the front/left axle back out of the front differential?

    1. Unbolt/Disconnect Outer Ball Joint, and Tie Rods. Swing Control Arm out of the way and pull out.

    2. Co worker suggested just unbolted the Control Arm Bushing/Lollipop and said we should be able to swing the Control Arm out of the way enough to pull/install axle.

Thoughts and input my iX friends?! I'm honestly quite embarassed, but whatever - it needs to get fixed.
