BMWCCA GGC's 1st Autox Of The Year

The first autox of 2004 for the Golden Gate Chapter(San Francisco Bay Area) is March 20th at Marina(by Monterey). I am looking forward to a fun year.

What tires/tire pressures are you running in the autox, what all have you done to the car?

The first event for me is this weekend also and my first with this car, so I am trying to get some ideas for tire pressures to run on my kuhmo mx's.

Are you running MX's in 205/50-15? What mods do you have? Last year I ran most of the events using Azenis in 195/60 on my basketweaves. I ran 40/40 or 40/38 with those with M3 springs/sports, and rear M3 sway. By the first autox this year I will have KMacs in the front, cab front sway, and M3 CA bushings. I will either run my Azenis or my street MX's on Ronal LS's, depending on the weather. With the MX's you may be able to run slightly less psi and adjust your oversteer with the rear pressure.

Cool, I will have to see about changing my pressures around after the first run or two. I am just running on 215/40-17's, atleast they are kosei's so they only weigh 16lbs but I am planning on going to race rubber on 15's later. I have H&R sports with Bilstein Sports, and a homemade rear strut bar. How much of a difference did the M3 CA bushings make, how about the cab front and M3 rear sway bars?

I did the M3 rear sway last year and that was probably a mistake. Hopefully the Cab front will help. I just put the sway, CA's, and Kmacs on and am not ready to confirm much as weather has limited my experimentation. But in the few chances I have the car seems really well planted. I had -1 degree camber before the kmacs and am still running that. Can't wait to bump it up to -1.5 or -2. I will know more 3/20.

How come you didn't like just the M3 rear sway bar, too much oversteer or did it snap oversteer more? Right now I am debating whether or not to do the cab sways or Ireland Eng.

The thicker rear sway reduced my traction out of tight turns. Should be more balanced with the cab front now installed. This is a cost/benefit analasis. The sways I bought cost me just over a $100. Any others are 2 to 3 times as much, but offer a adjustable rear bar at the least that will help you balance the car. The more things I get that adjust, the more I can screw it up. I am better off getting a good compromise and do some adjustments to caster/camber with the KMacs and tire pressure. So far I am happy, we will see in a few weeks how this all works out. May get R compounds next.
