Exhaust Question

I am looking at putting a brand new header and exhaust on my car. I have a 84' 325e and i would like to put a either a single 2.5" exhaust from the header all the way to the back or run a dual 2" with some sort of H pipe. I would like to know which one sounds better and performs better than the other if you have tried something similar.
I going to custom fab the whole thing.

Single 2.5 will be PLENTY, go with that. That's what I am going to be running on my car when the motor goes back in.

dual 2 inch would be over kill i think
