    Now I'm really pissed

I just got done changing out the CSB in my car for the new one, and while the vibration taking off from a stop in 1st is gone, I've still got a light one toward the top of 1st, and I've now got vibration almost all the way through 2nd. I'm seriously pissed off, I have no idea what could still be causing vibration. The flexdisc was still just fine, we lined the driveshaft halves back up where they are supposed to go, I double-checked every bolt, I preloaded the CSB, everything. But when I took the car out to test it out, I got vibration again, worse in 2nd than it was before. I've only had the vibration that the old CSB was causing for about 3 weeks, and I've been taking it easy to keep the vibration down. It couldn't possibly have thrown the driveshaft out of balance that quickly. I have no idea what to do, I'm so pissed right now. This is the kind of shit that makes me just want to sell the car. If it's the driveshaft, I'm going to end up having to pay $400 to get a remanufactured one, after I just paid $200 for this one.

Examine the DS, look to see if any of the balancing weights have fallen off of it.

Also, is your vibration, definetly related to what gear you are in? Or is it related to what RPM you are in?

The vibration is slightly related to the gear, but much more so to revs. If I wind first all the way out while driving, I get the same vibrations as I get when driving normally in the rev range in 2nd.

I've talked to a few others, and they're also suggested that one of the balancing weights may have fallen off, or that the fairly serious vibrations that I've been having up until how actually have thrown the driveshaft out of balance. So sometime this week, I'll take the car down for a few days, pull the driveshaft out for the THIRD time, and take it down and have it balanced. Patrick is going to think I'm insane when I call to order another CSB and flexdisc. We'll go from there.

Are your motor mounts fine, any vibration from the front of the car?

Motor mounts are fine, tranny mounts are brand new. The vibration is definitely coming from the driveshaft.

If I were you I'd start rotating it like 90 degrees then driving, repeat.

Rotating what, the driveshaft? It's lined up to where it should be, it was marked when I first got it, and I've kept it at those marks.

....maybe that was the problem all along. You said you had vibrations before you changed the CSB and the flex disc. Maybe the drive shaft was misaligned before. You should actually rotate it 180 degrees.

Actually his idea is better, because if you think the flanges would still be correctly lined up with a 180 degree turn, rotating 90 would mean the flanges would not be lined up.

                    Try it!

                      Thanks. ;)

Yeah you need to make sure that the universal joints are on the same plane as one another.

I didn't start to get vibrations with this new driveshaft until about 3 weeks after we put it in. It came with the marks on it from the guy I bought it from, Alex Shchipkov. He's a reliable and well known E30 source for parts and knowing what he's talking about. When Jordan and I installed the driveshaft, we lined the marks up dead on, and I did the same this time when I reinstalled it with the new CSB. The reason this one started vibrating is because we had the wrong CSB in there. I'm really not wanting to go through pulling the exhaust down again, pulling the driveshaft and flipping the halves 180 degrees, and then bolting it all back up again. It's not that hard, but it's 2 hours just to try something that has a 50/50 chance of working. But hell, I'm always bored all day after work anyway, so why not.

It seems that what happened is that the vibration from the incorrect CSB may have actually unbalanced the driveshaft. When we pulled the CSB out, the housing around the bearing was almost separated from the mounting plate. Like I said before, everything looked good when I reinstalled the driveshaft, and I preloaded the CSB and everything, there's not much else that could be the problem. I'm going to just pull the driveshaft out again this week, and take it in to have it balanced. There is a shop nearby that does it. It doesn't cost much, and once it's done I'll be able to rule out one way or the other if it was the problem

Having the same problem, just changed CSB and guibo too

Ok, so I've been calling driveshaft shops around here in LA and they've been telling me bullshit iterating that my driveshaft cant be balanced because of the way it is and that its another problem, and I keep explaining i took it apart without marking it. Fuck I dont know what to do now, if I should get a new driveshaft or get this one balanced, I changed the CSB and the guibo and it was fine for a few days and now vibrations are back and apparently the mounting on the bearing got disconnected off the bearing itself like last time.

You don't need to get it balanced. Just rotate one half 180 degrees. If that is the issue, then you will have corrected it. THere are only 2 ways to install it if the joints are on the same plane as each other.
