My current tires are just poor and buying a winter set to be safe is cheaper than getting all new tires when I could get another summer out of the ones I have now.

? and why not if you live in area with alot of snow and ice the added traction afforded by the rubber compound is great.

People don't understand, especially those in huge SUV's, awd cars/trucks have an advantage in snow/ice/rain to accelerate NOT stop or turn.

Because some of us live in New Hampshire where awd AND four studded snows will still leave you sliding sidways sometimes. I drive an awd Toyota van in the winter and run 4 Hakk snows with carbide studs. It's great on highways after fresh snow because I know I have that extra bit of confidence but I still can get sideways very easily. Granted I do try to drive it like a BMW...
