    FS or parts: 87 325is or 91 318is (OR)

    Heya,
I picked up an 87 325is that is in pretty sad shape.

I would like to either make it reliable and sell it, or part it out.
The engine runs ok, needs some new sensors and ignition parts.
Transmission makes a little noise, although less than my 88 M3. Transmission shifts fine.
LSD works beautifully and no noise.

Wheels are in fine shape, tires are junk.

Rr spoiler is better than not having one, but not pristine. Front spoiler is OK.
All body panels are in usable shape except drivers door. Drivers door has a couple dents in it.

    Mtech steering wheel is worn.
Most everything in the dash works
    Seats are torn but work.

$1800 complete, or will part. 280k (supposedly the motor was replaced 70k ago)

Gold exterior, tan interior, 5 speed.

    ----------------------------------------------------
    ORRRRRRRRRRRRRR...

I can sell or part out my 318is. Car is really in fairly good shape, but needs a profile gasket. Clean car, but has dent in drivers 1/4 panel. This dent totalled the car, so the car has a salvage title. (no joke!) (can be seen in the photo!)
White ext, tan int, interior is in good shape, car gets 30 mpg. Has been a daily driver for 12 months. 182k
    Factory sunroof (crank)
    good dash
    good seats
    5 speed
    etc etc

    $2200 or will part out.

    Let me know

Please let me know if you part the 318 or the 325 joe. I'll help you rip it apart for a very very very minimal fee of free.

How do you figure that they are neglected?

1: the 325is has almost 300k miles. NO neglected car will last that long and still drive.
2: the 318is is not neglected. Dont expect me to fix a superficial dent on a car I paid $2200 for. This is not a show car, it is strictly to get me from point A to point B cheaply and reliably, while still being fun to drive.

How long was the engine run w/blown prof. gasket? Is the head warped? Are you sure? $2200 is a lot for a 318 w/blown motor AND damaged 1/4 panel, IMO.

the 318is is still my daily driver. I just add water ever 3 or 4 days. Maybe its not the profile gasket?? Im not sure. It could be the water pump seal, I havent dug into it yet. I honestly dont know a whole lot about the profile gasket issue, but I have some of the "symptoms"... coolant on the ground approximately underneath the passenger side of the steering rack... so I figured it was probably the profile gasket. I would be ecstatic if it wasnt. It is going to cost me about $250 in parts and $150 in tools that I dont yet have to do the job haha.

My origianl idea was to part the 325is and keep the 318is, I just wanted to throw it out as an option, as I wouldnt mind making the 325 into a daily driver. The 318is is an excellent daily driver, and gets great mileage to boot, it has not given any problems in the the last 10k miles.

is the profile gasket a catastrophic failure? this has been going on for probably 3 weeks.

Wow, Im really hoping that maybe it is the water pump gasket. I suppose that I just assumed the worst.
Do you have any experience w/ the profile gasket?

It would take nearly a miracle for me to part the 318 and build the 325...
