    balancing with M52b28 cranck

    Hi!

Im currently planning and searching parts for my iX stroker. i already have an eta cranck with rods, but since this combo requires to deck the block about 2-2.2 mm, i'm having second thoughts. the iX block is a bit different from the usual rwd one and these a not easy to find. i dont want to deck because i do not want to limit my options for the future.

so i thought i us a m52b28 cranck instead, which would give me 84mm of stroke. this combo with the eta rods does requires only a little or no decking at all.
but the m52b28 cranck is balanced with lighter pistons and rods. some engine builders say that balacing the cranck, m20b25 pistons and the 130mm eta rod is not really necessery. only if its is going to revved 8k+ (wont need and wont go that high) or if you have lots of cash (which i dont). there is a 110gram difference betwenn the weights of the m20b25 and m52b28 (piston, piston rings, rod, rod bolts, etc).
also i have heard that in a 6cyl engine, the cranck's counter-weights have a 120 degree angle between them and beacuse of that, they counter-balance themselves. only the load on the cranck and main bearings increases.

a car in here is running that kind of combo and hasnt had any problems. but he's car is not a daily drives, whereas mine is going to be. what do you guys think ?

(hope i got all the technical words and meanings right)

hey raimo, i'm also doing a stroker with the m52b28 crank - as you say the inherent characteristics of the straight six means there is far less to worry about when it comes to balancing compared to some other configurations. actually, the more i think about it the less i worry about the balancing side of things :)

i have spoken to a couple of people who agree that it will be fine, I know of one car running this 2.8 conversion I might ask if the crank/piston combo was balanced...

well, thats good to hear. its just that we have only 10 years experience in modifying and custom engine building here and a lot of various opionions about the current case.
anyway, have to look for a new cranck because the current seller wants me to buy a whole engine.

I am very happy that I had this done.
It cost me $400 to do this.
