WTB: used r-comps that fit stock weaves

Since I don't think the wheels I ordered will be in before my first event, i'm considering getting another set of tires to slap on the stock weaves so I can start getting the car dialed in. Tell me what ya got

I don't think you want r-compounds for your first track event.

Maybe some max performance summer tires or something.

Some kind of tire that will allow you to learn the limit curve of your car.

I appreciate your concern for my possible future in track racing ;)

If it is indeed your first track event ever, he is right. You should not run R-Compunds. Get some Azenis, Hankook RS-2s or the like and run them for a while before you go to Rs.

I agree. The best learning experiences come from driving under the toughest conditions.

Man, I should have left the "first" part out. Here's my thing... I don't currently have a set of tires that I would trust at the track and I'm not going to buy street tires, then r-comps after a few more track days. I've owned various E30s over the past 4 years and have done tons of canyon driving with track-experienced friends in the passenger seat guiding me. While i'm sure this isn't the same as a track, I feel that I have a pretty damn good feel for what my car does/should do/shouldn't do/etc. I have driven cars with r-comps a few times and feel that it is the right path for me. A few of my friends who have been to the track many times say that I should skip straight to intermediate, but i'm still gonna start off in the beginner class.

btw.... this is all for Dub Wars on July 8th/9th. I think this is the first year they are allowing BMWs in. The event is at cal speedway. Tracktime will be CHEAP! Check it out guys:

                  Michael,

I'm going to try to put this in the nicest way I'm capable of...

You are inexperienced, misguided, clueless, and unaware.

Listen to those who know and not what you *think* is reality.

Lars wasn't a n00b by any means, but discovered the hard way he wasn't ready for R comps.

As much as you think you may have experience, you don't. R compounds give a lot less warning when they are about to give and when they do, you'll be going faster than if you were on street tires.

You have very little experience pushing a tire to its limit, and a street tire would be friendly and let you know when you're about to mess up. (canyon drives are laughable as what idiot is close to limit while threatened with plunging to his doom)

Don't pull a Lars. Do it the right way and buy a set of Hankook RS-2s for your weaves and go. There is a reason why most track organizations BAN R Comps for novices.

man, you're a little late showing up to the bash-new-track-guy party ;)

MAYBE... just MAYBE.... i'll downgrade the tires on my DD and put them on my "track car" since they're in decent condition. I guess from a financial POV, if I have to buy r-comps for the new wheels anyways, there's no point in wasting money in "temporary" ones. I could put that money towards new bushings and whatnot.

i wasn't sure if it was your first ever event, or first event of the season...

even if you bought new street tires, you would wear them out on the track before you're ready for r comps.

                        That's where you're wrong.

I didn't spin the whole day!

It was the figure-8 warmup session

lol cleverly enough you changed your sig.... but I find it hard to believe you did not spin in the old one given the direction of the car and where the wheels were pointing ;)
