Do you even know what went in your old engine to be able to salvage it to build a stroker?

As far as costs go, many here do their own work or have good friends that help in the process. Labor is a big cost when it comes to engine building. How far do you want to go? Parts are not cheap and there are a lot of tools needed to build one correctly. What are you going to use it for? Because performance engines are not the most reliable. They are nice toys but done right you either are a tech or you got some bucks in the pocket to spend. Good luck and let us know what you are going to do.

to be perfectly honest this'll be my first engine build. my old engine, the valve train was weak, and i ended up breaking something in it, and in order to fix anything im pretty sure i need to take the head off to fix it so in my case, too much money, i picked up a 88 2.5i for 1600 Can installed so i re- did the front of the engine myself(timing belt, belt tensioner pulley and water pump as well as all the belts and i set the valves) the car will be for street use but i cringe when a mustang fly's by me:(. i was gona do an obd1 e36 s50 but now that i have this extra engine it seems worth it. please let me know what you think i should do. and this wont be a quick jobbie if i do it, i need money and itll take time

sound like your head took a dump. Well there really went your way into a stoker. The 2.5 head is mated with the 2.7 bottom. Its not just that easy but thats the way many build a stroker. IF you do the work you could find yourself a 2.7 bottom for about 3-5oo and a newish 2.5 head for around 500. Im not the best to tell you how to do this for I am going to S50 route. Check out e30tech.com as well. There you will find more people that are into turbos and SC cars. But many there also surf here so I guess you could ask in both places. Good luck and remember what ever you think its going to cost, double it and even triple it and that would be about what it will run to finish a project.
