So I was driving my car tonight and when I turned off my headlights, the dash (cluster, hvac pannel) stayed lit, as if the headlights were still on. My rear license plate lights also are on. The headlight switch is in the off position. The rear/head lights are off.

I unplugged the headlight switch and the interior lights are now off. The rear license plate lights are still on. Pull the fuse for the plate lights and it turns off. Put the fuse back in and still back on. Put the headlight switch back in and it is working 100% normally

Now, my thoughts are: Headlight switch is bad, replace, done.

Now the plate lights are hooked in with the rear side marker lights, which are in kinda bad shape and could possibly be shorting somehow making the plate lights remain lit. I don't have side marker lights to tell you if they are on or not. What do you guys think?

Someone stuck a piece of hashish in your car, man.

All I can think of would be the light controller (by the stock amp, near the antenna) being weird, but I dunno if it has a connection to the plate light.

hey, did you retrofit the headlight or anything of that sort? I retrofited my depo angel eye, and the way I soder it together, when I have hte high beam locked on, random stuff in the car stays on... if I shut off the engine. Yea, I'm a moron, but still, it could be a possiblity. :P

I changed the license plate lights with new ones and that fixed the problem. The old ones must have been shorting them on.

I just finished removing this Lights On! light control box that automatically turns on your headlights when it gets dark outside, and fixed up a crapload of wires that had fraying insulation near the driver's side headlight. Turns out that some fool decided powering the turn signals by twisting two wires together was a good idea.

Maybe it's a little twisted, but I actually LIKE doing this (when I can figure it out). It's one of those things that's really satisfying. I'm sure Luke can more than relate to a sense of all being right in the universe when you decipher and fix a PO's duct-taped, multi-colored wire, unlabeled mess of a stereo install, for instance.

That said, I'm awful glad the OP's problem was license plate lights. Otherwise, that sounded like a bitch of a prob...

LOL, ya, I am happy too. I agree with you too, Kris, I like the feeling of fixing electrical stuff. It is a bitch at first, most of the time, but when you fix it, youre like haha bitch, I fixed you!:D

Ya rite! I think best part of working on cars is when you are finished. I like welding, that is pretty cool.
