    cam seal leaking

I did a timing belt a few months ago, and changed the cam seal while i was in there, as preventive maintenance. Big mistake. The cam gear bolt came loose, the cam gear began wobbling around, throwing the timing off, fuckin all kinds of shit up. I tore it all back down, tightened it all up, and put it back together. It came loose a week later.

So I put a new cam gear and bolt in (WITH LOCTITE), and put it back together. After driving, when I park, I get a 12" or so diameter puddle of oil. The cam gear isn't loose, but the seal must be leaking.

I guess I have to tear it all back apart, new timing belt, new cam seals, everything. On top of this shit I ripped my Reiger lip off on my driveway. I'm so fuckin pissed.

Any other ideas before I tear it apart again?

I doubt you would loose that much oil from the cam seal when parking. There is a possibility that when your timing got all fucked up that your front main seal got borked.

It's the cam seal, I can see it leaking from there. Either that or the rocker plugs are demolished, but to leak that bad they would have to be, well, demolished - but they look fine.

I think the mess is from driving... it leaks all over the front and passenger side of the block, and when I park it all runs off down the one spot near the oil pan. This makes sense that it's the cam seal, it wouldn't leak while it's sitting (it doesn't, once the puddle is a certain size it doesn't get any bigger).

fuck it, I just ordered another timing belt, cam seal, and cam o-ring from bavauto. If it leaks again, I'm building a 2.5, the eta isn't worth this much work, no matter how smooth it runs. Maybe I'll just put a decked 2.5 head on my block. hmmm...

Oh trust me, after the second time tearing into it, I had plenty. Now I'm out of time and money so I can't sit around and drink beers, I just gotta do the work :(
