    IE Sport Clutch

I need a clutch. Should I go stock? Anyone run the IE sport clutch? It says they click a little when engaging - how loud are they? I want something a little more aggressive but the car is a street only car that I drive for pleasure on the weekends.

Stock? Is there an M3 clutch? IE sport? 4/6-puck?

Also WTB Flywheel: Single mass, for 325is. I'd like to lighten it & have it resurfaced before I do the clutch.

I've been very pleased with the ClutchMasters Stage 1 clutch that I installed on my track rat. It is fairly agressive, but no so much so that driving on the street is a problem.

If you are concerned about noise from the IE clutch, a lightened flywheel may not be what you want. There's a most execllent chance that you'll have a pronounced rattle from the transmission when the car is in neutral and the clutch engaged.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

sachs sport clutch, HD pressure plate, stock flywheel (unless you are seriously racing)

The IE clutch is just a Clutchnet 6 puck (Listed as a e36 325i clutch on the site). I have it in my car, there is NO need for it unless you are turbo or S/C. The noise they are talking about is probably clutch chatter that is common with pucked style clutches. I would just get a stock replacement if I were you... I am running a sprung clutchnet 6 puck, Sachs HD ( 618 ) PP and a Sachs Sport T/O and it is holding up to anything I can throw at it with my turbo motor.

I'm not worried about noise from the springs - I just wanted to know how much. As for the rattle & driveline noises, I just installed the AKG urethane (barely urethane, more like solid) motor mounts. I'm going to do the trans mounts when I do the clutch. I'm fine with idle noise & vibrations.

I thought there was a sachs sport clutch that was essentially a stock disc with a little firmer springs? I'm not really looking for a 6-puck now that I've read your comments. I want something a little firmer than stock though. Does such a clutch exist?

Why the recomend against the LW fwheel? I thought it was a good thing? Does it sacrifice torque on an unacceptable level? I'm not talking alumimum just a lightened stock plate - maybe 2-3 lbs???

there is - that's why I reccomended it, with the sachs HD pressure plate :p

I think I got my sachs sport from bavauto, and the HD pressure plate (part number ending in 618) from IE. but I believe BMA can get both of them for you. You also need the TOB made for the sport clutch..

the flywheel thing just makes it annoying to drive on the street. it's harder to drive the car at low RPMs, launching is harder, and it will rattle at idle. it doesn't make any torque difference, it just makes the engine rev a little easier. it's up to you, but on a non-race car, I don't think it's really worth it.

Thanks that's what I was after. I want to get my hands on a second single mass and have it lightened. That's what I meant by LW flywheel - not the aluminum one that's 8-9lbs. That's too much unless you are track only IMO but I lightened the flywheel in my 2002 and it was nice. Taking 3-5lbs off made a very nice difference (going from 25ish to 20ish lbs). Has anyone done that or do you guys only go stock or LW aluminum?

So BavAuto will know what I mean for the Sachs HD clutch, PP & TOB?

I have a 1989 automatic that was converted over to a 5-speed. I assume that an IS single mass flywheel was used but I have no idea... Is that going to be a problem when I order or should I get a second flywheel and order the clutch kit based on the new flywheel? Is it possible that an eta clutch is on my car or is there only one flywheel that will fit onto my motor?

              Thanks,
              TJW

I had my flywheel lightened like you want to, ~5lbs or so. it's pretty annoying sometimes, but I live with it fine.

There are two different clutches at BavAuto - a Sport Clutch and a Sachs Sport Clutch. Any difference other than $10 in price?

How much firmer will this be than a new stock clutch? My motor puts out a little extra but nothing needing a heavier clutch. Would I be better with a sport PP and stock clutch or can you not mix & match?

I really appreciate the help - Now if I can only get someone to sell me a flywheel for under $50 I'll be happy... For the ~$100 that people are asking I'd be better off spending $150 for a whole motor with intake & flywheel.
