Moto Swap Hell from 89 ic to 86 e 5 speed

1989 325ic automatic to an 86 325e 5 speed using the 86 wiring and computer. We made all the mechanical changes and we are unable to get the car running. I was told to use the 88 to 92 wiring but I can’t get that wiring and all that I have to work with is the 86 wires and computer. I need to know what changes have to be made to the wiring in order to get the car running.

you might want to get an "i" computer for starters. if thats all you have to work with and you get it to work, well your engine wont go over 4500 RPMs.

i computer isn't going to work with an e motor. I would check and make sure you have everything connected correctly. I can't remember which two plugs it is, but there are two plugs that have the same connector that if switched, obviously will not let the engine run. Seems like it was the temp sensor and something else, but don't quote me on that.

just a question here but why would you go from an i to an e in the first place ?

All of the sensors are plugged in and in there right spot on the motor. The connectors for the wiring harness are the same but there are more pins in the 89 connector than in the 86 and the book is not giving the diagram for the 89ic only the 88. When you turn the key to start the car the fuel gage says there ½ a tank but the red light is on and there other lights that are on also. I don’t know if the problem is under the dash in the glove box or if it’s up top at the connectors going to the fuse box?[/FONT]
