    400 head

Anyone know if early M50 2.5l 400 casting heads came with less cooling ports. I bought 400 casting head to replace a cracked head on a 528i and it has the same amount of coolant ports as a 070 head. See the pictures below :

Did not even know there was a difference! Thought all M50TU/M52 heads where the same!

both my 93 m50tu head and my 97 s52 head are cast 400 and side by side had the same holes for coolant, what is this 070 head ive never heard of this casting before i was under the impression that all 93-99 vanos heads had the same 400 casting

The "070" head was from a 1994 325i vanos car. Bought the motor for all the OBD1 parts back in the day. Bought a "400" head from a guy and then when i got it noted that it has the same coolant ports as the "070" head. Called Bavarian Solutions and they said they all can be interchanged. Just wasn't ok with less coolant ports as these heads tend to run hot.
