    Done a few photoshops.. DECISIONS!

    Hi all,

Done a few quick rough photoshops tonight, as my mate crashed my car and totalled my rims, so I need new ones.

I've only had the car for a month and had plans.. This is it originally.

The racing dynamics were awesome but I can't source others here in Australia as they are rare as fuck.

Option 1: TE37's in black. [rice]

Option 2: BBS RS.. standard silver mesh. [traditional]

Option 3: BBS RS.. Black mesh. [traditional]

    What does r3v think?

    I'm counting on you all!!

    Thanks.

FYI, the TE37's you'd get in an E30 offset won't have that sort of concave face you have in your photos. They will look quite different.

If I had to choose between new wheels (TE37) and wheels that were at least 20 years old (BBS RS) it's new wheels hands down every time.

Do we assume you want 17's?

You should note that a TE37 only comes in 4x100 in one offset for 17x7.5. ET 40. This offset is incorrect for an E30 and will need spacers to fit. You will recall running spacers in Australia is illegal and will void your TAC coverage as well as auto insurance.
This means if you hit anyone and they are seriously injured, should your cars legality be questioned you would be personally liable for all expenses for all parties (hospital, emergency services, car damage, road damage etc etc etc).

I know you're a p-plater so I am just being boring and practical JUST to remind you Australia's great laws and their impact upon you.

If you are dead set on JDM wheels, I can report the following is available and will fit.

      Volk RE30 - S1 rim profile - 17x7.5 ET 33. Will fit.
      Volk RE30 - S2 rim profile - 16x7 ET 33. Will fit.
      Volk CE28N - 16x7 ET25. Will fit
      Volk TE37 - 16x7 - ET28. Will fit

P.S there is nothing "rice" about a forged monoblock race wheel that just happens to be made in Japan. Be realistic.

Wow, thanks for all your help burkey!

As much as I'm learning, wheel offsets/profiles/etc are still all a massive blur to me it's hard to get my head around it all.

I wouldn't mind running spacers, I know it's illegal but I know lots of people do it. I don't think I will run spacers, and I'll just find a set of rims that fit properly.

I forgot to note that as I'm a cheapo, I'd be looking for replicas of any of these bad boys.

Usually I'd vouch for something like the TE37's, but for some reason my sense of respect for older european cars are pushing me towards to RS's.

Thanks for your help burkey, you were the complete opposite to the prick above.

I normally wouldn't comment on something like that, but the chrome and black windows are lol.

            I like the black mesh.

I reckon the contrast looks pretty good.

Talk about perception conflict, the car is close to 20 yrs old if not more, BBS RS are period correct.

just search around mate, there is loads of information out there.

if you are looking at knock offs, there arent that many choices and theyve all been done before e.g. XXRs, ESMs etc. You will be limited to the offsets and sizes they make and you will be able to find loads of threads with pictures of other people running those wheels and sizes.

My comment relates more to the stresses that have been encountered by a 20 year old wheel vis a vis a new wheel.

I think you would agree that a wheel is an object that is subjected to reasonably consistent levels of shock, load, force whatever you would like to call it. Aluminum has a fatigue life. If I was going to beat on my car like it's stolen (as is our wont) I would choose new wheels over old wheels, simple as that.

Your point of view is more aligned to form over function, which is fine, but some of us prefer the surety of function over form. One could argue which of these ideals is more Teutonic but this is not the topic of the thread.
