    E30 M3 on 18in HRE 501s

    Hey all, just wanted to share my ride.

    It's an 1990 E30 M3 on 18in HRE 501s, paired with a front Brembo GT kit, H&R race springs, Bilstein sport shocks with a few other small mods under the hood and suspension.

            I basically begged the guys from HRE to make the 501 in 17" at last year's SEMA. They just won't do it, which in my opinion is bad business as they would sell a ton of 5 x 120 applications in 17". 18" is just too much for any classic BMW, too ricey, too blingy, don't know, can't even stand super RS in 18' on the e30 M3. Not to mention it must ride like crap!

              If he lowers it more, it will look perfect with 18". That if he is looking to mimick the 90's DTM cars. But the lack of the center caps on meshes don't do it for me.

              I don't think they will sell enough to make a worthy profits with 17". There aren't many e30 M3s around and not all owners want or willing to pay big for HRE 501. Even BBS pulled the plug on the 17" LM 106 & 107.

                Im with you there 88Alpine.

                I also thought that a bit more lowering could make it look even better.
                But I own the same front brakes.
                This Brembo GT brake requires wheels with low offset.
                Iam running wheels with offset 13+10mm spacers, and its very close already.
                It might be a bit better with those wheels, just saying.
                Also you need to use alot of camber on the front if you lower it, to not hit the fender when the suspension is working. For sure Sport Evo fenders are on.
                Overall 18 wheels can be a bit messy especially when using this brake, is what Iam trying to say.
                Wonder if you, Albert, also had problems getting the right space with those HRE wheels?
                And hows the ride with it? Weight of wheels?

                  How is it that M3s can look good with 18s but regular e30 would look terrible with 18s?

                        The ride isn't too bad. Definitely much harsher and stiffer than compared to stock. But fortunately for me, this E30 M3 isn't my everyday car. At the same time, I have an E36 M3 track car that's on Bilstein Club Sport Coilovers, so I actually find the H&R Race springs relatively soft in comparison.

                        I am honestly unsure of what offset I am currently running at this moment in time, I just told HRE that the 501s were for the E30 M3 and it cleared the Brembos but with only 1mm of space to spare between the caliper and wheel. I decided to install a 3mm spacer to just give it a bit more clearance and the car a better lowered look since the H&R race springs really brought the rims in.

                        Will do a weigh in for the rims once I get the chance and let you guys know. Though just from carrying the rims, they're definitely significantly lighter.

                          I took the shot literally just a few minutes after installing the springs. I assume and hope it should settle a bit more within the coming days. Worst case, I'll look into a set of coilovers. My inspiration are the classic DTM race cars, but putting my own personal twist to it. I was trying to find a set of more accurate looking DTM wheels with the center caps you're fond of too, but they're virtually impossible to find in my country.

                            I like it, but agree, in 17" would be perfect. I dunno about the yellow brake caliper though :/
