front seats won't go forward enough to undo rear bolts

I need to remove my front seats to have them recovered. Neither go forward enough to uncover the bolts. I can barely get a socket on the bolt under the seat back.

    Anyone have a solution?

So, if it is up or down in the range move it somewhere else & try moving it forward?

It's both sides and the driver is all the way down and passenger is 3/4 up currently.

Both sides are all kinds of fubar. The driver won't recline or move for rear seat access, passenger no rear seat movement but reclines.

      Thanks

I've had change (could be something else) get stuck in the slider rails that prevented them from full movement. Might need to get access to the cables and tug on them to release and fold forward.

I think he is saying if you raise the seat bottom you may have more access to the rear bolt. I've had luck with an offset 19mm box wrench when the sliders are stuck. Check that the cross bar (under the seats) is in place. If one end has come loose the seat won't move. As for Tera seat access your u could have a broken release wire (BMW calls them ropes). Remove the seat back to get access to them.

Hopefully some combination of the above will allow you to get those bolts out.

The cables are ok, as far as I can see. They seem loose where they go into the mechanism on both sides.

At this point I am trying to remove both seats and use a pair of even more thrashed seats I have while these are rebuilt.

I tried moving the seats up & down, they pivot at the rear making no change to access.

Even if I could get a socket, wrench or anything on the bolts, if they are more than 1/16" they will hit the seat bottom and not come out.

Some play in the ropes is normal but I see a loose rope hanging there so something may not be doing it's job. Seems like something low profile should fit in there. Do you have a set of HF pass through sockets (the kind you use to remove suspension struts..or try to offset box. It may allow you to move the bolt enough for something else to work.

I take it the tracks are frozen. Have you hit them with PB ?

The seats (both) move back & forth seemingly as intended (this is too far forward to get in)

The problem is these bolts are unaccessible. I can get a low profile 1/4 inch socket on it and can unscrew it until it hits the seat. In the pictures I hve found of writeups on taking them out they move forward far enough to access/clear the seat:

Part of the problem is the seatbacks don't move for back seat access.

is it a vert? I have to move my seats all the way forward and then flip them up to access the rear bolts

I think the seatback movement is the problem

Got it out! Forgot I had this Craftsman slim set and it turned out the bolts are not typical BMW 3x as long ad needed.

The clip that attaches the rope to the door side latch mechanism was off.

Also the trick is folding the seat forward opens up the room to work on the bolts, reinstallation was easy.

The driver side does not move at all (recline or back seat access)

Yes and inability to fold the seat was a big part of the issue.

Thanks. I'm going to try accessing the mechanism on the driver side to fix the folding forward first.
