    AFM Extension wire?

I was just changing my intake boot and noticed the AFM has an extension wire for the wiring. What is this for? Is it needed? I removed it and hooked it up without it and the engine seems to run fine without it.

Some sort of recall or something from BMW years ago, IIRC reading somewhere on m42club. My car has it as well, never removed it. I'm sure someone will chime in on exactly what it is momentarily.

It was a recall for some AFM problem they had. I ran mine both with and without it and didn't notice a difference.

I don't know why I didn't search there before I posted here. One search and I answered my own question.

And for reference, it was a recall thing to address cold idle and WOT issues, however it seems several people have removed it with no adverse effects.

If you look at the extension wire, it has a little black box on it. I read somewhere that it houses a resistor or something along those lines that corrects the signal. Don't quote me on that, I am going purely off memory.

I wondered about this too...took it out a while back. Maybe it's worth cutting the insulation off to see what exactly is underneath.
