Was pulled out of a 1995 Dinan 540. Stamped Nikasil on the block, but was at the end of the Nikasil production, and was running just fine when the engine was pulled (car was worth more in parts than whole). The car had been in for multiple recall services, but the BMW dealership never deemed this car necessary for the engine replacement. I have the original paperwork showing the dealership service history for the car this engine/tranny came out of.
My take is that the block would do just fine as a standard M60B40 swap. If you're worried about it being Nikasil (which is no longer an issue with modern fuel), you could always remove the block and use the top end for an M60B44 hybrid. I was planning on the former, but it would sure be awesome to get an extra 0.4 liters of displacement :)
Includes the engine (w/ 179k miles on it), wiring harness, 6-speed transmission, drive shaft, pedals/clutch, and radiator.
Reason I'm selling: was going to do the swap in my black E30, but priorities have changed and now I'm doing a basement remodel in my house and selling the black car.
Prefer to keep the sale local, and to sell as a complete set. The parts are currently located in my friend's shop in Woodinville. There is an engine hoist on site. Sold
