What are those for? I see that they are for smoked ellips. but do you cut those out and instead of paint you just put those in? Where is the original article would love to read up on it. Thanks

No. The crosshairs go into the highbeam, not the low. You still have to take apart the low and paint the surround.

On the ellipsoid, the glass and rear bucket is what projects the light, making the front chrome bezzle useless, making it able to be painted. On the high beams however, its a replector housing so all of the light is purely reflected off the housing outward. If you were to paint the high beam bucket, you would render them useless. However since the beam projects light relatively straight out, you can insert said crosshairs making it look black from other angles. If you look at a smoked set, straight on you see all chrome with two lines across the highs, making them usable, just a little less effective.
