e30 e28 cup holder a solution?

I'm looking at the e30 cup holder on ebay. Does anyone know if the e28 console is similar to the e30? This mounts just under the front ashtray tabs.

Will not work, e30's ash tray is a completely different setup.

The two screws that hold the ashtray in.

My dad had an e28 that i made this one for. It screwed up under the dash. And was a PITA to remove everything to put it in.
