    F'in fuel lines

Now that I'm getting some motivation and time, I've been working on the car in preparation for the move and the picnic.

While messing with the subframe, I noticed that the fuel filter hadn't been changed since 1995. So off to NAPA, got a new filter and some new efi fuel hose (at $8 a foot, ouch)

Even hunted down some oetiker clamps and destroyed an end nipper with a file to make a crimper.

So I took the time to redo all the soft lines to the exact length as before. It took quite a bit of time to get the ancient lines off and crimp the new ones nicely. Pretty happy with it except the curves to the filter collapse the line. I'm hoping that under pressure they won't be kinked. Can anyone confirm?

That line should open under pressure and allow the engine to run. But It may over work the pump and flow through the system may be less than normal, causing the in-tank siphon to not work well. If memory serves, the OE part for that is formed so as to avoid the kink. Which means that generic hose isn't much of a substitute.

In lieu of the correct part, if you can find a spring whose outside diameter will just slip into the hose such a spring will keep the pinch from occurring.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Yup the OE one is preformed. I tried to use generic hose when I replaced the external pump on my eta and had the same problem you're having. I would buck up and get the right hose if i were you.

Crap you're right, just looked at realoem and they are preformed. Should have just used screw clamps, now I gotta tear it all apart again. Damn. Thanks for the replies.
