H&R Cup Kit, any with this set up?????

    HI Guys,

    I have a 1989 325i,

thinking in purchasing the H&R Cup Kit 2.1 front - 1.7 rear dropped, with H&R sway bars,

any of you guys running this set up?

is it a good set up for street and autocross or track days?

    any feedback would be appreciated,
    dtireshop.com@verizon.net

My friend has a cup kit on his VW Rabbit 07, it rides like an M, taught but not harsh. Too bad they don't make one for my convertible.

It's not any good for autocross or track days. It's too soft.

Thank you guys for the feedback,

I was thinking that if I replace all bushings and mounts with urethane bushings and running sway bars it was going to be ok for occasionally running an autocross or track day,

I just got this E30 about a month ago, so I am learning about the car now,

what do you guys recommend for spring rates, will the specE30 set up be good for street and autocross or track day?,

I don't really want a super stiff ride for street, I am looking for a balance do it all set up,

          Thank you in advance, Mario

Replacing all the bushings etc is good, but the springs/shocks are still your main components. It depends on what your priority is, if it's handling then you'll need to sacrifice your comfrot and if comfort is your first priority then you'll have to sacrifice handling...

spec30 (bilstein sports/h&r race) will be a huge improvement over h&r cup kit in the right direction, and you won't have any problems selling it if you don't like it or want to upgrade further down the road.

            my 2 cents.

Mario, I am gonna put it down like this:

This board, in general, likes their cars to ride like a fucking race car.

IE races? Fuck no, not me. I like my kidneys, thanks.

I am talking a no-compromise, harsh as fuck, hard as nails kind of thing I would not tolerate ever...see, I am old, like almost 45...ancient to (most of) these kids.

My car has a firm, supple ride, but you can still drink coffee when driving, the CD player still skips occasionally even on a new CD. My car is one of the heaviest on this board, though. I have B+G springs, but I do not recommend them unless you have a late model 4 banger, which I do not. Too much rake for most, if I didn't have such a huge stereo, no way.

The Cup Kit is stupid low...in the fucking dirt. Lowest thing this side of coil overs, basically. They have a firm spring rate, but not harsh...depending on the look/height/feel/ride you are going for.

Hard to put in words, huh?

I recommend finding a car that has a ride height you like and asking them to take you for a spin. You in Flawda, boi, gotta be someone around to hook you up.

              Oh yeah, welcome to R3V.

Guys I really appreciate your feedback and comments, I appreciate vey much your help, it is good to feel welcome to to R3V.

I understand that all comes down to personal preference, but with your feedback it will give me a good idea where to star looking,

my car came with bilstein sport shocks and eibach springs, I think they are the Pro-Kit which should lower the car 1.6 front & 1.4 rear, but they sag with time and I don't now how old are these,

I like the car to seat low, but I don't want a super stiff ride, that is why I was thinking of the cup kit, because I want my wife to ride with me sometimes,

so I will make my decision between the cup kit and the specE30 set up and go from there,

also, the spring rate tablet is very helpful, I will save this in my favorites,

Thank you guys for your help, Mario

if you have eibachs already the cup kit will ride just like it.

peoples definition of "too stiff for street" is kinda hard to determine. ive had people ride in my (old) car with the spece30 setup in it and they have said they rode in brand new BMWs that ride just the same. and those are STOCK bmws!!

hmm, im looking at your sig pic and thinking that if you go any lower with the wheel/tire setup you have, you might have rubbing/bottoming out issues. rolled fenders or not, if you have the wrong offset wheel youre in danger of that. something to think about.

Oh fuck me! I could not find that anywhere when I was ordering coilovers! I was aiming right around Dinan sport, ended up ordering 440/550. Goooooodbye ride quality.

                        Yes, you are right,

I am running 15x8 Axis wheels ( +20 offset with 8mm spacers ) with 205/55R15 tires, the left rear tire rub a little when turning,

I need to roll the rear fenders and replace all suspension bushings,

I was thinking to run 205/50R15 tires if I needed too, but I have to check first if this size would work,

                        the 205/55R15 has 23.9" overall diameter and the 205/50R15 - 23.1", I think I have seen on a magazine a couple of SpecE30 cars running 205/50R15 tires,

id say maybe pull the spacers? i can never remember the "proper" offset.

I didn't want to run spacers, but the wheels were hitting the calipers,

i THINK you might be stuck then. unless you decide to run a different wheel. the h&r will bring the car lower but will also be stiffer. so its not going to bounce near as much as a eibach. but like i said it might bring the car low enough to sit the fenders on the tires. im not sure. you might reference the "official wheel and tire" thread and see what they have to say.
