Hood won't open; handle snapped off too!

Okay I have been needing to aim my headlights for a while, and the problem became much more noticeable since I got brighter bulbs. Tonight I went out to the car to try and do that. When I tried to pop my hood, nothing happened. I tried pulling a few times and then the handle broke off in my hand!! So now I have no way of opening my hood. I have no idea what to do. I pulled the lower dash off and tried to pull the cable by hand and it gives a little, but the hood does not open. Any ideas?

TO the left of driver's side headlight there is an opening in the latch. Stick a screwdriver in there and turn/twist and make sure not to catch the hood with your face when it pops forward.

Thanks for the help but can you be a little more specific? Do I stick the screwdriver in the grill somewhere? I have a euro grill if that makes a difference.

Yes, through the grill. You'll see a little slot to stick it through and then a place for a flathead screwdriver. Just stick it through the grill into the flathead spot and turn.

It's too late now, but usually when they are really stuck like that having somebody push down on the front of the hood will help get it unlatched.

So do they just stick from time to time? Once I can get a long screwdriver and get the hood popped, what problem(s) should I look for?
