My friend, confidant, and master mechanic who built my car is selling his own 24v E30. This car has been fanatically maintained, and is in rock-solid mechanical shape. This car is the reason for my confidence in choosing an E30 for my drivetrain when I wrecked my 97 M3, and one drive will confirm its awesomeness. Fast, formidable, a true driver's car from a builder of E30s:

I am selling my 1990 318i with M/S50 drivetrain swap. *I have owned this car in one form or another for 10 years now. *It has been built and rebuilt a few times, each time getting closer and closer to my current and favorite final form. *This is still my dream car of sorts, a dead reliable classic E30 with modern power and performance. *It's final form adheres to the 'less is more' mantra, and the frankly awesome E30 chassis along with its upgraded power and convenience make this car perfect to me.
All available new BMW OE parts were sourced from a dealer. *All maintenance is up to date with the highest quality attention to mechanicals, preventative maintenance, even fluids. *The car has been stored indoors and covered for the past 3 years, being driven at least once every 2 weeks. *
I have built a few 24v E30s, but this one is mine. This is the one I wanted. Simple, stock appearance, very fast, but still flies beneath the radar. Silver isn't red. I kept it 4 lug to keep things cheap and light, and run 15 inch wheels for no drama, and no overbearing cost of replacement. I appreciate the convenience of a sedan more than I'd hoped, again this car is UNflashy down to the tame exhaust tip. Despite this, the engine has been substantially upgraded for drivability, fuel efficiency, maintenance ease, and more than ample power for an E30. Nice driver interface mods with seats, shifter, steering wheel, armrest etc.
The tire pressures are correct, the alignment is perfect. *This car can be driven daily *or stored for the year and used for a couple of track days. *With snow tires it is fine for the winter. *Everything works, there are no interesting quirks, hell - my mother sometimes drives this car when hers is in for service. *
I built one before that went way too far. It was modified to the point where it became no longer fun to drive. Compared to the old monster, this one is stock, with all factory parts, and softer on the street. Save the Sparco seats, this car meant stock=rock for me. It is dead reliable and fully updated. Still in love after all these years.
While it would be easier to list what wasn't replaced in my quest to renew and fortify this car, here is a quick list of work and upgrades.
H+R OE Springs
Bilstein Sport Shocks
Poly eccentric rear trailing arm bushings and subframe bushings
Motorsport front control arms and bushings
Poly sway bar bushings with M3 rear sway bar
Cross drilled rotors and Hawk pads, rear bronze slides, braided lines including clutch line
Stud kit and 4mm front wheel spacers
Dforce LTW5 Spec E30 wheels with 225 50 15 tires
Euro manual steering rack, solid steering guibo, non airbag steering column conversion
3.45 built differential, 40% lockup, polished gears and spiders, cryogenically treated internals, Motorsport cover.
Poly engine and transmission mounts
Complete Air Conditioning delete
Factory keyless entry
Rear headrest/armrest leather seat
Sparco pro2000 seats with sliders
Sans OBC display from early model.
Sans rear window and lockout switch from early model
4th "woah nellie" grab handle for driver
Motorsport lighted shift knob
Airbag delete with Motorsport 1 wheel
Euro side trim
Factory plate frames
Hella smoked headlamps with 100W bulbs
Smoked turn ignals
2.8L bottom end, new BMW OE with approximately 50k miles, 2.8L engine is under square and has forged crank. *This is the most reliable BMW bottom end.
3.0 cylinder head, approximately 30k miles, fully redone by Turners' machine shop in Dover NH.
All BMW OE hardware and gaskets
Complete OBD1 harness and peripherals, my preferred for the E30 as it is simple, reliable, easy to repair and never breaks.
Euro HFM, big injectors, Turner Motorsport tuning.
Top quality fluids used throughout drivetrain at all times.
OBD2 exhaust manifolds ceramic coated
Under drive pulleys
Welded oil pump nut, safety wired drain plugs.
ZF310 manual five speed, new BMW OE with about 50k. *
BMW OE M3 drive shaft, 50kish.
Short shifter, custom made from a bunch of kits, custom upper carrier length.
EVO3 E30 M3 clutch and flywheel, 20k miles.
No leaks on any assemblies.
Dual engine grounds.
Custom exhaust, dual 2.5 inch pipes with resonators back into a Magnaflow muffler with a stock 318i tip.
NEEDS/WANTS:
It's not perfect. Ideally it will require a paintjob as it is a solid 10 footer, but the paint is tired, the body has some dings, and the hood has a dent.
I still maintained the finish as if the car was mint, with regular details and wax at least twice a year.
The car has 3 rust spots, one on the passenger door jamb, the rear tow hook location, and the passenger front fender location. *All are normal E30 rust spots and can be repaired.
I never removed the fuel tank and replaced all the lines and clamps, which is not necessarily critical work, but it is something that I usually do. *I have also never serviced the heater box - they never break, but I am disclosing it here. The heater box is also original.
*
The solid steering guibo transfers a lot of road feel, I would recommend swapping for a Ireland Engineering one.
IN CONCLUSION:
This will be a no drama transaction, there will be no unexpected failures, friendships lost etc... *I have the title in hand, and know how to sign it. *It is plated, insured, and inspected. *It can be driven and road tested.
The car is in rock solid shape and will not cause any problems. Best of all the miles are highway, I am very easy on equipment.
Asking price is 10,000, if it sells before the end of December the price is slightly negotiable. *Location is Boston, MA.
