    Clifford/DEI car alarms

    Don't ever install one

    - It will randomly lock and unlock your doors when you are no where near your car.
    - When it gets below freezing, the alarm goes off, usually at 3am.
    - After a month on vacation, the current drain will kill your battery
    - When you get the remote in your hands, you will notice that the dip shits at the factory will have "branded" or melted the remote ID into the backside of it. Yea, they use red hot metal numbers to "melt" the ID into the back of the remote. It feels SO nice in your hands. Not.
    - They will sell you two remotes, but only one will work, unless you unplug your battery, then the other one works, but then the one on your keychain won't.
    - Your remote will have three buttons - arm/disarm and two aux channels, but only two will ever work

The only plus side was a good range, and easy install.

Whoops - guess this should be in "products review" - but all the same.

(Note - that this is with a very good install. I'm not shy to say I know what I was doing and installed it perfectly.)

I gave up on DEI, their quality has been very poor for a while now. I've had great luck with Prestige/Audiovox units. I sell and install alot of the the APS-787, and the APS-997a pager alarm remote starts. Installation is a breeze, and have had minimal issues with the units.

I have a Clifford, it's been pretty flawless...not too sensitive, which is nice...i have the proximity alarm (it's a cabrio) that is working well...no complaints. The only other brand I'd suggest looking at besides DEI is Compustar...

Guys, I have said it before, i will say it again.

          Scytek alarms fucking ROCK.

Cheap, easy, nice feature combos, and of the hundreds I have done, not one single brain has acted up after it left the shop. I have had a grand total of 2 dead brains. Their sirens seem to have had a bad run, but that seems fixed.

The bummer is that working at Car Toys, I won't be installing Scytek....

I have an older DEI (late 90's Viper unit). Two button remote, surprisingly sensitive sensor, basic alarm with a starter kill. Thing works like a charm.
