You don't need to use the locking tool to remove them. A friend holding a wrench on them while you undo the cap bolts is enough.2006 GMC Sierra 2500HD 4WD LBZ/Allison

sorry this is my first experience, trying to go off the bently manual. would that effect timing by not using the locking tool? and by cap bolts you mean head bolts?

No, removing the cams will affect timing though...haha
taking it all apart is pretty straight forward. Best advice I can give is to be very careful when loosening the nuts on the bearing caps. Follow the pattern and back each nut off a little at a time to prevent snapping the cam.'87 325ic, powered by S50.Comment

I got to where you have to lift the head off the block. Only thing is that one side of the head doesnt want to lift up (vanos side). While the other side of the head lifts up. I have been following Bentley e36 during this process. Any ideas on what to do?
