Well, took a trip to the junkyard and $73.24 later I came out with this

I also have some metric blues that Carlos gave me, so I'm already half way there! I have a 524 td manifold with monkey madness adapter plates lined up that I'm going to pick up when I return to South Florida for Christmas Break. Hopefully, when I drive back up, the car will be boosted ;)

Re: Turbo
That looks suspiciously like a Mitsu turbo from a Volvo 850. Check out gpop shop for rebuild kits. Just did my 13g and I had a local shop bead blast the turbine wheel. It spins up quicker now and has that nice sound it was lacking.... Greased Monkey ...Comment

I'm currently picking up an m30 afm from a forum member, so here's the list of what I have so far...
T3 turbo
Intercooler
Intercooler hoses
Hose clamps
Metric Blue head bolts
29lb Jeep injectors
Boost controller
Air cone filter
Stock exhaust gaskets
m30 AFM
Not much left to scrounge up thankfully:D I've also decided to use a 524 turbodiesel manifold.
And if you have a boost gauge you're looking to get rid of for cheap, let me know!!

One traded t-shirt later and my m30 afm came in the mail today:D

You got it man, that's exactly what I plan on doing later down the road;) I'll be happy with this little turbo for now though, this will be the first boosted car I've driven...other than my dad's old 80's peterbuilt semi
And a full body shot for good measure

I love the car and the build! But that huge sticker on your drivers window...surely it gets irritating while you're driving!
The rust thing is pretty sweet. Do you plan to put a clear coat over it someday or keep it rusting?Comment
-
Hahaha, if I had my windows up it sure would. But I mostly drive around with the windows down, so I mostly see it when it's parked. I'm debating between clear cost and oil. I want to get the sheen right but it also needs to be the right color. I like the sheen oil can give sometimes, but I like a brighter orange-y color.

Florida weather...wish I could drive windows down all the time! I think it'd be kick ass to clear coat it once the rust is right, that way you could wash and wax it and it'd be smooth to the touch! That'd really throw some people off to see a rusty car be "clean" and smooth ;)Comment

Hahaha, I love it here:p That's a good way to put it, "clean" rust. Maybe I will clearcoat it. I'll have to seeFlorida weather...wish I could drive windows down all the time! Snagged some 15mm spacers off ebay in other news

In an attempt to keep this alive over break....
I've ordered an oil feed line for ~25 bucks from ebay. Its a banjo fitting from the turbo to ntp on the block. I need to pick up some autometer fittings as well. For the return I picked up a 5 dollar section of hose from advanced auto and some plumbing fittings to tap the pan at home depot. I dug through my dad's pile of parts at the house and I found a few gauges I plan on using. I'll post pictures later, but they will all be pretty old school :P My turbo seems to not only have an internal wastegate but also an internal bov! So that's one less item to get on the list ;)
My goal is to have it done before I go back up to school on the 6th, so I'll keep you all posted!

Well I finished the turbo:p
Started it the week before I had to drive back up to Gainesville, so not really the best timing
But with the help of some great friends and lots of long days & nights it started right up and made it all the way up, no problems. It was all done in my driveway.
At one point I was trying to find some old gauges to use in our garage but I only ended up finding a "boost gauge". It's just a pressure gauge that maxes at 20 psi

90% of the gaskets were hand made by me out of some exhaust gasket paper that I bought if anyone is wondering where I got the gaskets. A roll of paper was 20 bucks, I didn't really feel like spending $6 a gasket(need 6 total) on the 524 td gaskets, however much on the turbo gaskets, and all other misc ones!

Punching some holes using some items found outside the house.

Not too bad! Ended up cutting out the center hole with tin snips after punching a hole through it first.

And wa-la. One 524 gasket. I ended up widening the holes a tad after this picture.

Here's some pics of me switching out the stock injectors for the 29lb-ers!!!

300,000+ miles gets things pretty dirty

Also took off, drilled, and tapped the oil pan. Just did the usual thing and got the fittings from Ace Hardware & some heater hose. Sadly, I didn't get a picture of the perfectly made drain

Here's my ebay turbo feed line that cost me about $25

524td manifold and adaptors

Intercooler test fitted. Had to end up removing a horn!

Then hidden;)

Intercooler pipes mocked up

Taking some stuff off

Here's the final few pictures. These were taken at about 3am in the morning on a Saturday. School is starting Monday and I don't even know if the car will even run, let alone take me the 300+ miles to school
Oh well!
Plugging up some vacuum leaks;)

After sorting through a huge box of a mashup of multiple turbo intercooler related pipings and fittings Kevin & Jake were able to piece together a workable set up for the intake.

Almost there!!
