next i started making a fire pit for the back yard

base and sides all tacked together

    frame done

tacking the feet on. the feet are 2 1/2", 1/8" wall (squared and trued in a lathe) with 3"x3" 12 gauge squares welded to them.

a little more progress and more welding.

bottoms of the sides fully welded, the frame stitched on the insides.

    feet welded on, inside stitched.

good stopping point until next weekend

next weekend i will finish welding it and cut the bottom for 2 3"x4" squares of perforated 10 gauge steel for convection. i also need to make the filler pieces for the gaps in front of the legs.
i "might" start hunting for a propane bottle, burners and lava rocks to put in it after i burn up the wood i have (i have about 1/3 of a cord from my mesquite tree in front of the house)

    the specs are:
    19" base
10" sides set at just under a 45* angle
    over all OD
    height

i might start on a second one for a friend also.

i will post up finished pics next weekend.

NEXT: i am going to start on a new park bench for the front entry way of the house.......over built of course. :D

i also needed a new recycle can that was bigger than what i had been using, so i made this up and had it powder coated with the tables.

it is made of 12 gauge steel drops. i have a friend who owns a water jet company and he lets me have the drops (which are the left overs after the shapes have been cut out of them. pretty much scrap)

i still need to make the liner that drops in out of aluminum, so for now the old recycle can sits inside of it.

God help the person that falls on that fire pit corners haha. Looks great though Greg. LOVE the waste basket, needs a white trash bag to make the holes pop.

i will give the corners a nice radius when i am done.

the trash can will have an aluminum liner that will lip over the top with aluminum C channel and have a satin finish to give better contrast. the plastic bag liner will go inside of that.

your table thread go me thinking about needing a nicer set of tables for the patio. i suck at wood working though and i knew the steel would hold up to abuse and neglect better than wood.

                Right on! Good looking stuff.

Digging the stash box in the end table.

Thats the kind of furniture that will still be around when the grandkids are looking to bend some ass over it.

                    More parts from work:

BIG driveshafts for a prototype airplane. All out of stainless. Tube diameter is ~4".

Before and after one operation. The "shaft" runs at an angle through the center part, so it took over 30,000 lines of code and ~30 minutes to run.

Seatbelt mount for an airplane. Notched to fit onto two intersecting bars.

3-station setup running aluminum soft jaw blanks.

                    TubeShark dies.

                    Velocity stack.

Sanding block I made in my free time at work.

Oh, and this is what happens when a 3/4" endmill spinning at 14,000 RPM hits solid aluminum at 120 inches per minute. Took about 1/2 a second to do that and sounded like a train horn. Would have kept going had I not stopped it.

None what so ever. Endmill was fine as well.

In that case buy some earplugs and crank up the feed!

But in all seriousness those are some great looking parts. How many axis (axi ?) are your machines?

We have two 3-axis mills, one 3-axis with a rotary table, a two axis lathe and a 7 axis lathe/mill combo. Then a bunch of manual machines and a waterjet. Oh, also a 5 axis CNC press brake. Website is here:
