Gov't already gives subsidies to farmers to keep them from imploding and artificially raising the price. I can even tell you how much powdered milk is in my dad's warehouse that the gov't has purchased to keep the price up to keep farmers afloat, and there are lots of warehouses that house goods for the.

The farmers used to buy their own futures and can no longer afford too.

I have a fair idea of how commodity trading works- I think the OP's point was how shitty it is that so much of the cost of fuel right now is purely due to speculation that costs are gonna continue to rise. It's BS.

Agree with this, technically. If you're say 25-30 years old and have 2 children, the odds of them living to be 25-30 and having their own children are less than 100%- they might die, be infertile, or decide to not have children. But if this was strictly adhered to (2 children per couple), over time the population would shrink for sure...




What kills me is how so many people portray the farmer as the bad guy in all of this. Farmers do have the possibility to finally make good money from corn and other crops- but it's costing them ALOT more to get the crops in. Diesel fuel is up probably 30-40% compared to last year, fertilizer is WAY up from 5-6 years ago. Yeah, some of the US farming system is screwed up- especially the subsidy system and some of the govt price supports, but it's not the average farmer's fault- it comes down to greed and f-ed up politics, again.

Technicaly it should be limited to two. then there is a population balance, not a decrease nor increase in total volume. China did it wrong, if each couple would balance their existance with a balanced replacment.

Meh, we're living longer so the rate of birth is faster than rate of death at 2 children. For ease of argument, say the average child per pair of people were 2, then with longer expected lifetime, more people would be in the world than before.
