wow, that tech 2 definitely does not seem fit to be on a race track. the inexperience of some drivers on that track is really what frightens me from ever driving on it. But i still would do it in a heartbeat... just not in my car haha

For sure! I'm going to be looking for some folks to chill with when I head back home in May. I'll be back home for good. I'll likely be staying with my 'rents for a while who live in Kenosha.

However, the M1 used the original high-compression M88, which was good for well over 450 hp in race trim. AFAIK, early Euro M5/M6's used a lower compression version of the M88 before switching to the S38.

I'm guessing that what this guy did was to take the high-compression M88 shortblock from an M1 and stick on an S38 head and intake plenum. That way, you get the dual-row timing chain and probably also a wider power band due to the intake (just guessing). Maybe the S38 head also flows better? Again, that's just a guess.

EDITED: Now that I think about it, he probably just had a cracked head on that M88 and couldn't find an original replacement. Now he's trying to justify the hybrid. ;)
It looked like a stock M88/3 engine to me. A M88/3 cam cover won't fit a S38, so its definitely not a S38 in there. My guess is the dude had a M88/3, maybe fitted the crank of a M1, giving it the dual row chain, and possibly the pistons? Dunno if the compression is any different between the two however.

Damn that would be my dream one day to go and drive the 'Ring.

you guys SUCK! first of all... 10:30 is fast... and not to sound like a poop head, its too fast for a stock e30 M3 and on your 2nd or 3rd lap....unless they changed the ring layout and made it 4 or 5 miles shorter... lol

as for the photos of you and eric in the car... BAD ASS! thats all I can say! I have tought Eric well! Im proud of him..now if only i can see some videos of him overtaking 911s on the track in his MTII, that would be sweet!

Great photos and thanks for posting...

Ahem...Myers, let Alex in on how to photograph... err other things at track days *ninjas* the way someone did it in Paris and London!

I think it was 10:30-10:40 when he stopped the timer on the OBC. I could be wrong.
