This is good question. AlphaN is not always suited to everyone. The general reason people tend to choose alphaN is due to the Air mass sensors unreliability. With a good tune and a good air flow position there is not reason it wont work well. MAF's have been known to play up more often then not! So as soon as you have a faulty reading on a MAF'd and mapped car the discrepancies in the fuel/air mixture can be magnified and become dangerous.

The AlphaN map is built to use the parameters of other 'inputs' Block coolant temp, oil level sensor (actually uses a heating element). These variable are sturdier then airmass.

yes, Ideally if you live 2000m above sea level you should have a remap on a rolling road. But our map was made in Europe and should prove to do better then standard in most situations.

I personally would only run AlphaN in a racing car as it can eliminate certain issues like air leaks and poor running.

Turk - Couple questions. here's my situation:
I'm looking to upgrade my E30 M60/6 Daily Driver to either the S62 (likely) or the S85, since the S85 engine isn't much more than an S62.

When do you plan to have an S85 plug/play kit together and will the price be comparable to S62?

Given that I want to have a daily diver (no track), creature comforts...etc, I believe I'd be looking for the bolded price-tag, right?

£1400 - AlphaN Map and modified loom on an exchange basis. Approx 360Hp - Is this for S54?
£1200 - Standard BMW Map and modified loom
£950 - AlphaN Mapped ECU ONLY- You must do your own wiring. Instructions provided

Regarding an AlphaN Map, I feel that the only reason I'd do it, except for the increased HP, would be to remove the driver side MAF since I'd plumb all the intake to the passenger side. I'm very handy, so I can do the wiring myself, as long as you have the E30 S62 wiring instructions that come with the kit, right?

How much extra power would one get on the S62 with the AlphaN mapping? I mean, I can be convinced to do AlphaN.....

Essentially, you can make this entire swap plug and play?

Hi Frank.

First of all if you already have an M6* in situ, swapping it to an S62 is very easy!!! Same manifolds, mounts, etc.

If you are looking for a reliable daily I would steer clear of the S85. They are so overcomplicated and prone to leaving you on the side of the road every 5 minutes.

However we can provide a kit for the S85, though again due to the complexities of the programming the cost is circa £3500 for a kit.

So lets presume you go for the s62, (my favourite engine) The AlphaN solves many issues caused by engine bay heat. Having the Maf's so near to the rad causes the engine fuelling to mess up and in general run poor. So what we would do is convert one of the mafs into an Air intake temperature sensor, you can the position this anywhere in your inlet and the ecu has a correct air temp to utilise when deciding on how to run the engine.

The alphaN map is capable of 440hp and 540nm. In all honestly though, an e30 is going to struggle to grip whichever option you choose.

Wiring wise, we have simplified everything to the point you should be able to wire the whole engine up in a couple of days. Yes I will provide instructions.

Once the wiring is done and the fuelling etc is all correct then yes, just turn the key :)

If you require diagnostic software then you can download Inpa Free from the net. Its very good for comprehensive diagnostics. If you google it you will be able to see its capabilities. Then just buy a OBD D - K Can cable off the net and away you go!
