    Hesitation and stutter under acceleration

    Hey guys,
Last week my '89 ix started stuttering at random times while driving. It seems to be only under acceleration and it'll bog down like crazy, even to the point of not being able to accelerate at all. Then it'll kick to life and drive fine. The anti-lock light will come on while it is having trouble but turn off when it clears up.

Was thinking about pulling the injectors and cleaning them, but any other ideas what it may be?

First, make sure your power/ground cables on your battery are tight! Make sure your engine ground is fine....mine is on the driver's side, not sure about the IX

This leads me to believe that the ABS warning light and the check engine light are in the wrong positions in your cluster.

Search "stomp test" and see if there are any codes coming form the ECU. That's about the best place to start the diagnosis.

101, is the check engine light the stand alone behind the cluster? Pulled it and there's only one bulb not mounted in the PCB so I'm assuming that's it.

        Bmwmaniac- will check asap

If you mean a bulb that is wired separately from the cluster printed circuit board, there's two "stand alone" lights in the cluster. The check engine light and the ABS light. It sounds like the check engine bulb might be incorrectly inserted into the ABS hole in the cluster. Both will come on when the key is turned to the "on" position and will go off once the engine is started.

Besides the stomp test and loose grounds, check for a torn intake boot, loose connections at the air flow meter, crank position sensor and coil. It could be a lot of other different things as well that are causing your issues, but start with the easy stuff.

Thanks guys. Stomp test brought back 1251, injector 1. Going to pull and clean today.
