    S52 exhaust idea. what'd you think?

    =========================
    Summary/Map:
    S52 + see pic below
    2x 2" header outlets into:
    2x 2" inlets/2.5" outlet Magnaflow Y ($31) or flowmaster ($47) into:
    2.5" Inlet/2"outlets Flowmaster 50 Delta ($94) into:
    Ebay exhaust ($370)
    =========================

    I talked to DelRay Muffler house earlier today and they seemed in favor of putting this together for me. I want something rather quiet since this is a hybrid track/street car.

    I have a 3.2 S52 (obdII, rear O2 sims ~ no cats) that starts off with ebay headers. They end under the passenger's seat each with 2" diameter piping. I want to add a muffler as close to the engine as possible to eliminate vibration/raspiness and kill sound better. The 2x 2" headers exits go through a 2x 2" -> 2.5" Flowmaster Y collector, into an Aluminized - 2.5"Inlet/2"Outlets Flowmaster 50 series Delta muffler, ending with an ebay exhaust (seems very much like IE's but nobody can confirm)
    how does that sound? Quoted/added price $700'sh shipped and installed.

    pipe2pipes

    i would substitute the Y for an X/H pipe in favor of having that distinct bmw sound, but i can' find any in the correct diameter althought reducters could be made...comments appreciated, even the bad ones.

    edit: magnaflow not flowmaster for the Y

    Sounds interesting. Correct me if I'm wrong, but do you intend to dual-single-dual the exhaust?

      You'll have better flow with a Flowmaster merge instead of that Magnaflow you have pictured.

        ^^ you're right that is a magnaflow. you suggest the same Y merge from flowmaster or a different merge?

        you have no made an observation so you can't be right or wrong. i would've preffered dual, but i kept getting pointers for Y, X and H cross overs and this is the best scenario i could piece together.

          Any reason for going with the Ebay exhaust? Is it for ease of installation? The stock muffler brackets and hangers will work with regular ass 5x11 exhaust cans.

          I think if you're having someone custom fab an exhaust, go Ebay headers dual 2" into single 2.5" then 2.5" all the way back.

          That pic is of a Magnaflow y pipe, the Flowmaster is spaced so that Ebay headers can be spliced in fairly easily.

          EDIT: Ya the Flowmaster piece looks like this: http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku

            The flow master is a better design also.

              confesion: i'm not really all that fmailiar with exhausts. I'm working off what i've head and read. so i guess the flowmaster is then definetly a better choice. Now, sound is the reason i even considered the ebay exhaust. i dont mind the extra 6-7lbs (i do the extra $300), but that single pipe setup will be loud even with a resonator after the merge

              what if FM Y merge, muffler, 2.5" pipe back to a last 5x11muffler with cool tips (maybe addon) and call it a day, save weight, same money. how do we deal with resonance/raspiness? and how would that sound?

                i added dual 2" cherry-bomb glass packs in place of my empty cat. it made it a lot quieter and it revved quicker.....but it is really BUZZY! i was doing some research and was looking at a magnaflow that is a dual 2 1/4 in and out with a flow-through design that should still make it quieter but eliminate the BUZZYNESS (i fucking hate it). i showed the muffler to my friend who used to work at GHL designing and building mufflers and exhaust systems, he said that the model i wanted to use is exactly what i need and should still make the same or more hp/torque. i'll see if i can find the P/N and post it for you

                  Yeah, that's pretty much the way to go.

                  Maximizing the size of the muffler will reduce the volume of the exhaust. I'd try getting something like a 5x11x22 muffler for the back box, and up front a long round 4" muffler could work pretty well.

                    i was really going with this dual pipe setup, but now i find absolutely no reason for it as long as i use two mufflers and 2.5" piping. Well, seems like its been decided thanks guys, i'll post clips when its done. thanks

                      I'm running ebay headers to single 3" on my S50 car. I have a 28" Cherry Bomb in the center and a 50 series Flowmaster in the back and it's wayyyy too fucking loud. I have a Magnaflow on order right now to replace my Flowmaster.

                        ^^ its gotta be that 3" pipe, no matter what you do its going to be loud.

                        got my car back this saturday. Its more towards the quiet side, but daaaayum, the sound takes the price!! paid just under 600 for: flowmaster-Y to a long ~ 15inch through resonator, flex pipe, more 2.5" piping and a $239 Borla muffler ending with dual 2.5" straight cut sexy tips. jeje i ought to take some pics and vid:finger:

                        i'd like to thank all of you for talking me into the 2.5" single pipe.

                        the special thing is that i told the guy where to place everything for great ground clearance AND i had him flange the headers so that i could disconnect the exhaust easier, custom hangers etc. If anything, i recommend this guys. Delray Muffler house in delray, FL. great work!! talk to vinny!
