    Rear Hatch Problems

I just picked up and E34 a little less than a week ago now and I am doing some small maintenance things to make it road ready as to not get pulled over. So first question is, as it is a wagon, does the whole hatch only open by the key or does the center latch open it, too? Also, my rear glass will not open. I can pull the handle for the glass and hear it actuating the lever but the glass wont pop up. Anyone else with a wagon have this problem?

The center handle opens the entire hatch. I'm not sure about the key because naturally the key doesn't work in my hatch.

If you're pressing the handle on the right and it's not popping up it means the lift supports in the back are shot. (there are 2)

Excellent. Thanks alot! Now I need $60 for a new set of those shocks. Also, any idea on a way to get the glass to open since the struts are shot? I tried pushing on the glass from the inside and pressing the switch but that didn't work out.

Press the switch and grab the wiper arm at the base where the little handle is? It should open easily.

I just went out and tried that and the latch won't release the glass for some reason.

because you need to fix/patch/repair the wiring harnesses on both sides of the hatch.

try holding down the button while you slowly raise and lower the hatch to see if you can find spot where the hatch wiring will work.

            or

pull the side cover off in the cargo bay and trip the relay by hand to see if you can get it to pop.
            it's a total crap design.
