    Drivetrain fitment between models

    Hey all,

    I'm buying a roller which is a 87 325i. My current chassis is a 86 325(e).

From the roller, I'd like to remove the:
    • driveshaft
    • manual transmission (and related parts i.e. pedal box)
    • 3.73 LSD (yeah, it was an upgrade on the 'i')

...and put them into my current chassis. The current chassis has an 'i' exhaust manifold mated to a full 'i' exhaust system (cat and muffler). Everything else is otherwise stock eta parts.

Does anyone know if there will be any fitment issues for these parts between these two models?

(Yes, my current chassis had an ECU swap and is running Motronic 1.1 like the roller is.)

    Thank you!

Depending on month of the 86, you may find many of the connectors are different.

Look at the diff- the speed sensor was one that changed shape.

What's the go-to way to address that?

My come-from way of dealing with the sensors
was just to swap the connectors that were a problem.

The sensors themselves seem to be the same, it's just the wiring.

But Jeff brings up a good point- an eta needs an eta trans...

Good looking out. Luckily, my crank sensor was replaced with one from an 87 'i' (same year, modelwafflesas the roller) when my mechanic converted it to Motronic 1.1. (I got this eta 'stroked' with all the parts from a full 87 'i'.)

            Thanks for the info, everyone!
