for sale ads that delete the content/price after sold

this really irritates the hell out of me. why do people do this?

can't they just put "sold" in bold right by the price? looking at old for sale threads is a great way to research the price of used parts. especially rare items.

i am in favor of adding a rule that discourages this practice.

    what say you all?

      My local forum does that.

Most people comply, not all. Mods can put it back though.

Well. Buyer can't blame the seller for an item purchased not as described if the description has vanished... Just saying. ;-)

That shit drives me up a fucking wall. Some parts are just so oddball you dont know where to start so you look and see what others sold for. Also use it to see if im overpaying for something.

More rules for people to follow, ehhh. But really, I like this idea and have been trying to do it with the last few things Ive sold. I try to keep the price but have deleted pictures just to clean the thread up since I like to keep just one ongoing thread.

It's already a rule, and has been for years. Though as with most of the rest of the rules, people simply choose to ignore it.

Post as much info as you can. A price must be posted, as well as pictures of the item(s). Post as many pictures as you can, even if it is a common item. A picture tells a thousand words, but it can also conceal another thousand. Links to hosted galleries of images are acceptable, links to eBay and/or Craigslist are not. Once the item sells, please do not edit your ad to remove the price. Many people search through old ads to get an idea what their item is worth.

This doesn't bug me as much for a few reasons but mainly because prices can change over time. If you're selling something that's worth more now than it used to be, then you don't want your buyer looking some thread from 5 years and claiming that you should lower your price.

Also when I sell stuff I tend to price it according to 1, how much of a bitch is it to acquire this part; and 2, would it help out someone else in the community? Because of this I generally price low and as a result whens someone wants to argue about price I tell them to stuff it.

                    :)

Please do not delete prices!!!!:) Really needed to keep up with the market price, so I can figure out what to sell parts for, or if I am overpricing something:)

yeah, but what if you have a list of 50+ things? I don't know how much I have in my FS thread, but I delete sold things after about a month.
