low engine oil message

I changed the oil about 700 miles ago. The car tells me that the engine oil is low but not all the time. I checked the oil and its fine. Is this common?
I also get the low coolant, but thats fine as well.

88 545is, k27 Turbo, TCD Turbo Chip, 30lbs Injectors, b35 cam, Aftermarket Intercooler, Custom 3" to Dual 2.5" Exhaust, HRs/Sports, BBK, SS Lines, 18" Staggered Alpinas, 235/40-265/35 Falkens, S2.93.

Check if the oil level sensor by the oil pan is connected.

The connector often gets cruddy and the plastic breaks down. Likely a bad connection.

The coolant level could be a bad sensor, but they also get gunked up and can read incorrectly (it's just a float switch).
