    Bad coil -> battery discharge?

    Battery in my M10 coupe is discharging pretty quickly - like in less than 10 cranks. Checked the resistance of the coil and it reads 1.1-1.2 while Bentley states it should be 0.82. Does it make any sense that this would lead to a quick battery discharge? It seems unlikely to me. My starter has been fine up until now but should I pull that and check it?

    Seems to me that a bad ground somewhere is the culprit but the out of spec coil has me wondering, too. (I am certain the coil is original to this '84 coupe.)

    Also: cap and rotor and plugs are brand new, battery tested fine when recently recharged, ignition wires are 18 mo old. Starter sounds normal - no failed solenoid. I have been leaving the battery disconnected in between work sessions in the garage - so the discharge is taking place in a very short amount of time, not gradually over the course of an hour or days or weeks.

    err.... no, it's not your coil's fault.

    Battery, alternator or a connection, methinks.
    Don't get too hung up on ohms. Coils go bad about once in a billion miles.

    Switch to volts and start metering around, you'll find
    something amiss.

    now, sometimes I just mess with people. It's more entertaining that way. george graves
