    What happened??? (Shifter moved forward)

    Hey r3v,

Something weird happened today... It was wet outside so I took a corner a little sideways, I didn't hit anything out of the ordinary however I hit a bump in the road somewhat quickly, nothing outrageous though. However, after that bump it seemed like my shifter moved forward and with it the whole shift pattern, obviously. Before this my shifter never hit my center console and now it does in 1st, 3rd and 5th.

when I got home I checked my tranny mounts and motor mounts and they all looked fine. The motor mounts a solid condor ones and the tranny ones are only a year and a half old.

    What gives??

    Thanks for any help!

It looks right... I don't see any cracks and it doesn't look bent or anything. Could it have slid forward or something?

They both seemed tight. If it were to have slid forward, what would the proper procedure to get it back into place be?

Your trans mounts didn't sheer, manipulate or anything?

                Doesn't look like it...

                Here are some pictars:

                Passenger side mount.

                Driver side mount.

Location of the driver side brace mount bolt.

                Both mounts.

Here you can see the shifter isn't concentric with the hole in the transmission tunnel.

Looks like your shift shaft is about to break in two. Check the angle of the pin in relation to the shaft, should be 90 degrees and i think i see a crack.

What did you do to that thing? You been workin out?

Holy shit... no kidding. I didn't see that before, I think the flash emphasizes it.

Did the ears break off where the bitch clip mounts to the transmission causing the whole shifter carrier to move forward?

Had this happen to a friend's car. The shifter kept moving forward and he couldn't get into R, 1, 3, or 5, and eventually, his shift rod snapped. Looks like that's what happening to yours. According to my friend "everyday is a race" so he mustn't have been too nice to it. Maybe you need a DSSR...

I've done my fair share of hard 2nd-to-3rd shifts but other than that I'm not hard on it...I don't think.

                          Did anything else get damaged?

                            It's the PO's fault.

Assuming all my mounts and braces stayed in place, would the selector rod bending be the sole cause of my movement in shifter? Now that I think about it, I was getting tail happy in 2nd gear and would have shifted, probably decently hard, into 3rd and that must be when it all happened.
