        here's mine.
        89 vert.
peeled off the rubberized sound deadening material and went at it with a 8lbs sledge and ball peen hammer.
I plan on recovering it with a thin film of somesort or simply re-shooting it with paint before I put the engine back in permanently.

          I thought this too.

I'm using Garagistic mounts, and there is absolutely no way it will fit without any hammering.

          I tried.

          many times.

I tried to drop the engine with the AC on, and the pulley simply couldn't clear.
took the whole deal off and went in smoothly

I didn't need to modify the driver's side firewall at all but pushed in the passenger side a lot both behind the head and below it as well to create plenty of clearance for long tube headers. I used Otis B35 mounts in the furthest back of the two mounting holes. I ended up removing the insulation from the cowl cover and I covered the modified firewall area with stick on shiny aluminum faced heat shield that is thinner than the factory sound deadening. I have a good amount of clearance with this setup but I'm not running A/C or a turbo.

Running e30.de mounts in P3, I only needed the most minor of mods with the B35. The engine dropped in with just the bulkhead insulation removed, and then I gave it a small hit near the starter where it barely touched. Then I pushed the bulkhead back with a bar about 3mm for clearance at the back of the head.

I an running the Getrag 240 box though, which might make a difference for gearbox clearance - the 240 is tiny.

If you happen to bash the firewall on a RHD car just remember that there's a long brake linkage to think about back there too!

garagistic mounts, position 3. pounded about an inch on the passenger side to clear the head.

also, I dremeled the intake manifold a wee bit to clear the brake booster. before i did this i couldn't get the motor mounts to seat flush.

I don't have any pictures, but I didn't have to massage mine more than about 3/4" or so with the Good & Tight mounts.

I do, been running it since day 1. Works perfect.

There is plenty of room if you're in "position 3" or whatever it's called. Basically if you have to massage your firewall in order to get the engine sat far enough back to match up with your mounts, then you'll have enough room for the AC compressor. Leave the compressor, lines, condenser, dryer, etc all hooked up when you remove the old engine. Just unbolt the compressor and tie it out of the way. When you install the m30, you'll have to modify the compressor bracket a bit but otherwise the compressor will bolt right up to your new engine.

It's possible to run ac with m30 swap? Interest suddenly piqued.
