BMW (Castrol) 10w-60 if you want to pay a bunch and get meh oil
Amsoil 5w-40 European car formula if you follow the guide on their website
Amsoil 15w-50 Race Oil if you track your car and have played around.
I'm an Amsoil fan, but really, you'll get a million answers. It also depends on how you use the motor (lot's a time b/n 5-7K rpm) and the temps where you live and if you run your car in the cold. The second weight # is really important for high-stress, high temp environments. You need good viscosity there. If you're never going drive your car when it's 40 degrees out, use a straight weight oil. Or better yet, check out Amsoil and RedLine's websites. They both have some good guides.
I use Castrol 5w 30 or 5w 40. For these engines you don't really want to use conventional yet. I would go with a synthetic blend.
I used conventional valvoline vr1 in my m20 motor because the cams and rockers needed a nice amount of zinc. I also went with conventional because the oil particles are a bit thicker, so the seals didnt leak.
These engines are not as picky.
I used Castrol 0W40 once and it made me feel meh. Didnt burn anything, never burns any oil with over 200k on it, but a bit of lifter tick after an Auto-x(To be expected).
Id stick to a Good Synthetic 5W-40 for these engines.
