Automatic transmission. Gear lever loosen

On my 1990 E30 318i RHD Touring automatic, the gear lever or stick is loosen. It won't change gears. The transmission is in neutral and the lever moves freely.
I can't seem to find any DIY or drawings on how does the lever connect to the gear box.
Does anybody know where can I find some details on it?
I guess I will have to work from beneath the car to reattach something on the shift linkage, but can't find anything about the automatic transmission.

Yes you will have to get underneath the car to verify if the shift linkage is disconnected.

The linkage will be located directly above the catalytic converter if it has one. If not you'll find the linkage behind the giubo. You'll see where the shift lever linkage connects to arm that goes to the transmission via clip.
