    Clutch and weird noise

    Help please!

Sorry if this is in the wrong place. My car was fine yesterday but this morning it was making a funny whirling noise when i would accelerate and then just now when I was driving it, my clutch stopped working until I restarted the car (this happened after starting it with the clutch and driving a few lights). When I restarted the car, it worked for a couple more lights and then stopped working again. So now I'm jus pulled over and wondering what to do and how to fix this. Would it be awful for the car for me to try and drive home?

    Thanks!
    Brian

the noise disappeared after i came back from work. i ended up parking the car on street parking and taking the train home to avoid any further damages to the car... hahaha

The symptoms describe don't point to anything obvious, other than a possible problem with the clutch or it's hydraulics. Further investigation will be need by a BMW tech.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Need specifics. When you say 'clutch stopped working' do you mean it won't go into/out of gear? Won't move forward? When you say 'started it with the clutch' do you mean a pop-start? Details please.

          update -

noise is gone. people were telling me that it might be throwout bearing, so i youtubed some throwout bearing fault noises and it didnt sound like that. it was more of a high pitched whistle.. like the kind that comes out of old car stereos. maybe it was TOB but thats gone now..

clutch works. can still feel the resistance of the clutch. doesnt fall to the floor. i can push the clutch in to start the car and once i start the car, i can go into gears. however, after driving a little, i won't be able to go back into gear from neutral until i restart the car. when my car is off, it goes from 1-5 perfectly without a problem.

if this helps, it was always a little hard to put my car into 1st. bit of a resistance (rarely, once in a while, it would be easy and just pop right in. very rare.) maybe the excess force (nothing crazy really.. just more than what i should be using) caused damage?

i believe my clutch was replaced about 5-6k ago? not 100% sure on that though.

          thanks

It really doesn't make sense that it works after turning the car off and on again.

I'm willing to bet it's something wrong with the pressure plate or TOB.

So as soon as the car is off it works again? Or do you mean after it has cooled down some?

As soon as it's off, I can turn it right back on and it'll go another few blocks/lights before the clutch doesn't let me change gears anymore

Sorry, but this really doesn't make a lot of sense, especially since your current 'quick fix' is shutting the engine off and then immediately starting it back up. Is this really a clutch issue?

Regardless, try bleeding the clutch hydraulics... do you know if they were replaced when the clutch was done?
