    Rusted input shaft splines

The splines on the input shaft from my '89 Getrag 260 are badly rusted. Would it still be safe to use if I clean the splines with a wire brush or some sandpaper? I want to run this transmission instead of the one from my eta since I am using a lightweight 323i flywheel and I've swapped to motronic 1.3. Thanks for any advice!

I'd use some 240 sand paper then a Dremel with a wire brush then a needle file from the Harbor Freight set. If you can grease it and slide your friction disc easily, you will be OK if you don't over grind anything.

      Yeah, maybe a wire wheel.

Unless it's pitted so badly it'll break, you'll be fine if the
      pressure plate slips over it.
