    Really bad/rough idle

OK, i'm pretty sure i've screwed up my car big time. So, i get the wonderful idea to pull the filter out of the airbox on my 84 325e, and clean it (i know, bad idea). SO i clean this thing out, and i guess my father ran it through water to help clean it (i know, even worse idea). So, i *thought* the filter was dry when i put it back in, but apparently not. It had a really rough idle and would bounce above and below 1000 rpm and then it would die. So, i went out and got a brand new filter(Purolator), took the old piece of crap out (fram i think) cleaned the entire airbox, the AFM as best i could, and the elbow between the AFM and the intake manifold. Put the new filter in and put it all back together, and it does the same thing. Only at idle though, anything above about 1500 rpm is fine. So i let the car run for about 30 minutes, hoping it would improve. It didn't. I then took it out around the block hoping it would improve, but it didn't.

Ok, just what the hell did i do to my car :(

Sounds like a vacuum leak, or possibly ur idle control valve
