    M20 Cam Scoring

I bought this cam off of a member. He neglected to tell me about the scoring until after I paid him. Is this common? Can they be polished out?

X2, If I was offered that as a cam core I would have laughed, loudly, and rudely. You cannot "polish out" journal lobes that bad.

If you paid for that, I would politely ask for a refund on the part at least (and eat the shipping). No self-respecting enthusiast would sell that to another enthusiast.

If he refuses, I'm sure the mods will not take kindly to it.

          Oh, you can use it....
...if you had to, and there wasn't another one anywhere around. Ever.

          It won't be ideal, though.

The little bit of a lobe that I can see looks even less exciting...

If they don't refund you, please post their name. I don't want to buy items from them.

The scored journal shown is one that rotates in the cylinder head, not a cam lobe that would get reshaped during a regrind.

As Toby mentioned, this is a good cam for using when you are are on the side of a road in a third world country and the cam in your motor is in two pieces. Or three pieces.

Otherwise, the cam is junk and the seller is either ignorant or a swindler.
