Not a compleat list but here it goes - there are other options, but this is what I used. You can save some money by doing it as ely did (user name rs4pro3)

    e24 auto m30 motor 90k
    Getrag 265 tranny out of a e30 m3.
e30 m3 driveshaft (shortened and rebalanced)
    Shortened shift linkage
    m20 rubber motor mounts
    e30 m3 tranny crossmember.
    e24/e28 ecu
89' m20 wireing harness (custom spliced)
    e34 m30 oil pan
    e34 oil pump (rebuilt)
    e34 m30 airbox
    custom motor mount brackets
    e30 m3 tranny mounts
    e30 m3 flex disk
    e28 radiator
e28/e24 radiator hoses (and some m20 hoses)
Lots of cussing and swearing(not optional)

note. If you can find the right e30 driveshaft combo you don't have to pay for a expensive e30m3 shaft or have it shortened. (ask ely)

In compairson the m50 BOLTS RIGHT UP. M30 swaps are not easy.

or you can go to e30.de http://www.e30.de/335i/00.htm they have a wright up there too....

George, I take it that you've personally done an m50 swap as well. Otherwise, that's quite the bold statement you've made there about bolting right in.
I'm not disagreeing, rather just making sure you've got it straight on what's involved
I'd like to check your car out some time, I'm in SLO about an hour and a half from SB
I'd like to do the swap myself some day, just because I'm curious about it, but I'm turned off by the weight and lack of advantages of an m30 over an m20. After all, there are still 12 valves, an AFM and a distributor :P

That looks like only the 3.5 liter stock has around 220.

Ok, maby a bit of a overstatment. But not by much. What's the partlist for a m50 swap?

                M50
                e21 brake booster(modified)
                Bend heater hoses.
                e34 m50 oil pan
                ummmm....
                That's about it right?

Lot less details to work with. Yes, I worked with M3 Ryan to do the swap. We made custom one-off motor mounts. If you can get ahold of the mounts from e30.de it would be a lot easier.

Since we were starting from scrach, We had to figure out things like motor placement. Try positioning a 300 lbs of oddly shpared motor into a tight space and keep it there well you fab up motor mounts is not a easy task. And no, you can't just hang it off a hoist. And it has to be DEAD on.

No, I've never done a m50 swap...so I guess I talking from only forum knoweldge.

Love to have you down some time Bryson. I want to check out your suspention set up.

The m30 motor is COMPLEATLY different than a m50. Different feel, different Hp and T curves.

All the old bimmer guys refer to a m30 and BMW's Legandary smooth inline 6. It's feel like a big m20.

The m50 is a totally differnt beast. If I had my way I would have gone with a s38. Now there is a motor! But the cost was too high for me,

What I am trying to say is you can't pick a motor based on weight, HP/ T numbers. M30? M50? they are apples and oranges.

put that money into the m30 and you'd still have more then the m50 ;)
